The truck and trailer industry in the United States has been steadily growing in recent years, with the revenues of the 14,483 truck dealers forecast to be $100 billion in 2018, topping off a five-year growth rate of 4.4%.

That growth was encouraged largely by macroeconomic trends that made downstream markets for trucks and trailers in the U.S. increasingly viable.

What's the outlook for the truck and trailer manufacturing industry in 2019?

Let's take a look, along with examining the largest and fastest-growing companies in the industry.

A 2019 Overview

The general consensus among analysts is that the truck and trailer manufacturing industry will maintain its momentum through 2019.

The 472-company industry is forecast to earn $12 billion in 2019, reflecting a five-year growth rate of 3.7%. According to a major analyst, 2019 iis poised to be "the best year since 2006."

There is, however, a possibility that the U.S.-China trade war could have a negative impact on the truck and trailer industry in 2019, decreasing the profitability of the truck and trailer industry in 2019.

According to that analyst, "trade wars are like shooting yourself in the head," and the U.S. tariffs on China may lead to increased trucker rates and reduced demand by buyers.
